About the Journal

NAL-live is an online journal in Diamond Open Access. Initial submissions are peer-reviewed and published under the CC BY 4.0 International Public Licence. As “Living Documents”, they can be further developed through citable comments, additions and revisions.

Purpose & Concept

NAL-live aims to stimulate, moderate and document open scientific discussions. Once published, articles can be continuously updated based on comments by the scientific community as Living Documents. New scientific developments, new literature and new interpretations can be added. Versions such as 1.1 (annotated/supplemented) or 2.0 (revised/updated) are created over time.

All versions, comments and additions receive their own DOI and are fully documented for permanent citability.

How “Living Documents” work

  1. Publication (v1.0)

New article submissions are peer-reviewed, with the option to make them accessible as a preprint before peer review is completed. They are published under CC BY 4.0 with a DOI.

  2. Community input

Registered users add comments and additions (each receives its own DOI after editorial approval). Commenting can be optionally semi-anonymous, where only the editorial team knows the full name of the commenter.

  3. Updates & supplements (v1.1, v1.2 …)

Authors annotate and supplement the article. All changes are documented and citable.

  4. Revisions (v2.0 …)

Major updates lead to a new version. Previous versions and discussions remain accessible.

Persistent Identifiers & Citation

Each article version, comment and addition receives a DOI. This ensures transparent version history and reliable citation across updates and discussions.

  • Stable DOIs for v1.0, v1.1 … v2.0
  • Threaded comments with DOIs
